Set up two-factor sign-in

Add a 6-digit code from your phone to your sign-in, and keep backup codes.

Two-factor sign-in asks for a code from an authenticator app on your phone after your password (and after Google or Microsoft). Any time-based authenticator works: Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, 1Password and others.

Turn it on

  1. Go to My account and find Two-factor sign-in. Press Set up two-factor sign-in.
  2. Open your authenticator app, add an account and scan the QR code. On the same phone, use the key shown under the code instead.
  3. Type the 6-digit code the app shows and press Turn on.
  4. CloseDesk shows ten backup codes. Copy or Download them and keep them somewhere safe, away from your phone. Each one works once. Press I’ve saved them.

If your account requires it

When an admin sets the sign-in policy to require two-factor sign-in, you are asked to set it up the next time you open CloseDesk, before anything else. The steps are the same.

Day to day

  • After your password, type the code your app shows now. Codes change every 30 seconds.
  • No phone with you? Type a backup code instead.
  • Running low? On My account press Make new backup codes. The old ones stop working.
  • New phone: set it up while you still have the old one (turn it off and on again), or ask an admin to reset it.
