The Tally connector is a small PowerShell script that runs on the Windows PC that has Tally. It only reads from Tally, and nothing changes in a close until someone reviews and imports the balances.
Set it up once (configurator or admin)
- Go to Settings → Tally connector. Type the name of the PC or person and press Make a key and download the connector. The file
closedesk-tally.ps1downloads with the key inside it. Keep it private. - Copy the file to the Tally PC, for example to
C:\CloseDesk\. - In TallyPrime, turn on the XML server: F1 (Help) › Settings › Connectivity › Client/Server configuration, set TallyPrime acts as to Both and the port to 9000. In Tally.ERP 9 it is F12 › Advanced Configuration.
Fetch balances for a close
- On the Balance sheet page, pick the close and press Get balances from Tally.
- On the Tally PC, with the company open in Tally, right-click the file and choose Run with PowerShell.
- Back on the Balance sheet page, the balances wait for review. Press Review and import, or Discard.
Tally is read once when the close’s reconciliation starts, and then only when someone presses Refresh from Tally. Balances are always as at the last day of the close month.
Let it run on its own
So nobody has to run the file, create a task in Windows Task Scheduler on the Tally PC that runs every 15 minutes while Tally is open, with this action:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "C:\CloseDesk\closedesk-tally.ps1" -Auto
When nothing was asked, it does nothing and doesn’t touch Tally. Add -TallyCompany "name" when several companies are open in Tally.
Keys
Each PC gets its own key. Revoke a key under Keys when a PC is replaced or a file is lost; that connector can’t send balances any more.
