Set up CloseDesk for your team

From a new account to your first close: companies, people, roles and a template.

This is the order that works best when you set up a new account. Each step takes a few minutes. You can try CloseDesk first in the live demo, which needs no sign-in.

1. Create your account

  1. Open Start free on closedesk.in, or Create an account on the sign-in page.
  2. Enter your name, your work email, your first company’s name and a password. You can also use Sign up with Google or Microsoft if they are shown.
  3. You are now the super administrator of the account, on the free Solo plan.

2. Fill in the company

  1. Go to Settings → Company profile. Check the name, address and Fiscal year starts in (April for most Indian companies). The fiscal year decides which closes are quarter, half-year and year ends.
  2. Add GSTIN, PAN, TAN and other numbers under Registrations. Renewals due within 60 days show on Pending.
  3. Go to Settings → Working calendar. Tick your working days, add your holidays and set the close schedule. See Company profile and working calendar.

3. Add your people

  1. Go to Settings → Users and press Add a person.
  2. Give their name, email and a starting password, and tick their access levels. See Add people and set access levels.
  3. Send them the address and the starting password privately. The first time they sign in with it, CloseDesk asks them to choose their own.

4. Give each functional area its people

Go to Settings → Roles. For each area (Accounts payable, GST, Treasury and so on) choose who prepares, who reviews and who approves. Without this, tasks show No preparer assigned in Roles. See Set up functional areas and roles.

5. Check the template and start a close

  1. Open Settings → Templates. Each company starts with a Standard close template. Edit its tasks, working days and dependencies, or remove what you don’t need.
  2. Go to Closes and press New close. Pick the period, the first working day (WD1) and the template. See Create and run a close.

6. Optional extras

  • More companies: Settings → Companies → Add a company (as your plan allows).
  • Balance sheet reconciliation: import your chart of accounts, then a trial balance into a close.
  • Security: turn on two-factor sign-in for yourself, then set the sign-in policy.
